With an asymmetric lift, the posts are angled towards the rear of the vehicle to increase clearance for opening the doors on the vehicle that is on the lift. Typically an asymmetric lift is preferred for front wheel drive cars, while a symmetric lift is preferred for van pickup and suv applications.
