it is all plastic and pressurized by the battery power. nothing to corrode. very similar to kerosene transfer tubes you buy in a store, just has battery to power it to a consistent and automatic flow.

The manufacturer recommends flushing with fresh water after pumping volatile fluids like gasoline. So, one would assume it would pump water okay.

On/off button stays in the position you put it in. You can turn it on and walk away and do something else while it is pumping, for example.

This Sierra Tools transfer pump does have a on/off toggle switch. You don't have to hold it in the "On" position.

Question

Will it handle hot liquid?

We own a smoker with a water pan. This water pan stays in the smoker which will get as hot as 400 degrees. At the end of the the smoking process we need to drain the water which will normally be just below boiling. Will Sierra Tools Battery-Operated Liquid Transfer Pump handle the heat?

I would NOT use this item with HOT liquid as you described. 400 Degrees is HOT and this is made of light plastic.
Good unit with cooler items even gasoline

I would not recommend using this pump transfer dirty cleaner fluid because of the chance of debris clogging up the pump.

There doesn't appear to be any filter, but if there are any solids you might want to wrap in screen or cheesecloth. Doesn't have a way to disassemble pump to get stuck objects out.

Before pumping gas through the pump again make sure the unit is completely dry and emptied of all traces of water. This will prevent mixing water into your gas.

You'd probably have to pump a little gas through the pump into a container to flush the water out, then dispose of the gas/water mix in an environmentally friendly way.

This pump will work with DOT 3 brake fluid or any brake or hydraulic fluid.

It would probably work for brake fluid, at least one time. I bet the brake fluid would corrode or melt the pump if the brake fluid is left in there though. Make sure you don't pump water with the pump first! (Brake fluid absorbs water).
