Can this fan be used horizontally

My daughter as a house with an addition and it is one step down to enter the addition. Can this product be installed between the floor joist of the house to move more air to the addition (horizontally)?

An additional fan is not required. This unit will move heat from stoves and fireplaces on the bottom level to a second level.
