I'm going to confess to not knowing the precise answer to your question, as I've not measured. However, I own a middle buster and a sub soiler, and was interested in a dual purpose one as well.
What I came to understand is that you can either have a really effective single tasker, or a measly multitasker. It SEEMS that if you drive an arm deep enough to be a good subsoiler (12-14") it's so deep that a middle buster just doesn't work, as it cannot flip the soil. Likewise, if you put a subsoiler tooth on the middle buster, you just tear up the surface.
it's a bummer, but as far as I can see, unless you seriously modify one, you're a bit stuck with either-or. Granted it seems like you should be able to put a short enough arm on the sub soiler, but. . . haven't tried it myself.
I guess I'm coming up with "Maybe, but you'd probably want to build or buy a shorter arm to mount it on anyway"

Yes, the shovel for the middle buster and the tooth on this subsoiler are interchangeable.
