Can it be used as, or with, a backup system?

I know that this is a grid-tie system, but is there the potential to use this product as a emergency backup? If not, can it be used to supplement a backup system?

This PowerG Grid-Tie Solar System cannot be used as a backup power system. It feeds all energy produced directly into the grid, and is not set up to charge batteries like a traditional solar system.

This PowerG Grid-Tie Solar System has a 25 year limited warranty on the solar panels and 10 year limited warranty on the inverters and racking.

Yes, the solar panels may be mounted on a flat roof, however, the reason you always see solar panels at an angle is so they are directly facing the sun to get the optimum performance out of them.

The PowerG Grid-Tie Solar System creates 12 volt electricity. That electricity could then need to be converted to 240 volt power through inverters. Northern Tool currently does not sell any 240 volt inverters.

The 4.8 does not designate the amount of wattage it provides. The unit provides 4176 watts of A/C power. To determine the kilowatts that it would provide, the 4176 watts would be multiplied by the hours of sun in your area on the panels. This total is multiplied by 30 days for the total KW per month.

kilwatts is the output... if you are looking to compare vs what your utility charges, that is kilowatt-hours...which is the calculation the Northern staff gave you... kilowatts x time in hrs=kilowatt hours. Example 4.2 kilowatts x 12 hours of sun = 50.40 kilowatt hours x 30 days = 1,512 kilowatt hours per month. In my area, that is about $105.84 worth of retail electricity at $.07 (7 cents) per kilowatt hour. If you use that much during the daylight hours. If you sell your power back to the utility, that rate is lower than you pay.

The solar system is complete with one crate of panels weighing 1000 lbs, another crate weighing about 350 lbs with the inverter, cables and mounting hardware and the rails are bundled weighing about 120 lbs.

This weight installed would be approximately 1,100 pounds. It is about 3 pounds per square foot. Each panel is 39" x 66" and weighs 49 pounds. The mounting hardware is aluminum, so it is lightweight.
