This unit will supply 400 watts of power. The rating of your sound system is 400 watts, however sound systems are typically rated by the output wattage and not the input wattage. Due to electrical inefficiency, the input wattage is typically higher than the output wattage of a sound system. To determine the wattage that is required to run your sound system you will need to look for a name plate on the receiver or amplifier that lists the amperage requirement and multiply that number by the number of volts that it operates on (typically 120 volts), this will give you the wattage requirement of the unit.

amps x volts = watts.

Once you know the wattage requirement of the unit that you are running it is a good idea to find an inverter that will supply 20% more watts than you need. This will keep lower internal temperatures ensuring a reasonable service life of the inverter.

The 400 watt portable inverter will work with your laptop as long as this is the correct wattage needed for your laptop. A pure sine wave is not needed for a laptop.
