Questions & Answers for NPower Remote Control Cable for Inverter - 20Ft. Cable

Question

What is the pinout on the jack so I can use my own switch?

This switch doesn't fit the panel in my vehicle so I want to use my own switch. Where can I find the jack pinout and is this a momentary switch or an off-on switch?

This inverter remote control cable doesn't have a pin style connector, it has a phone jack type connection. The included switch is on/off.

The remote panel goes to a 6 wire RJ-12 style connector. The pins are as follows, as always with the tab side down, and the conductors facing up and the wire is to the left. 1. Blue. Totally not used and cut off in the body of the panel. 2. Yellow. Goes to one side of the normally open momentary membrane style switch. 3. Green. Goes to the Plus side of the LED. 4. Red. Goes to the other side of the momentary push-button switch. 5. Black. Goes to the Minus side of the LED. There is no resistor in the panel for the LED. It is probably in the inverter box. On the circuit board of the switch / LED, it says, "Ground" 6. White. This is not use in the panel, but is wired to a trace that has a logo of a on/off toggle switch on it. Might be useful for something else. There are no active components on the board, just the membrane momentary normally open switch and the LED.

The NPower Remote Control Cable can be used with a Vector power inverter as long as the connectors are the same. This is a 6 wire type connection.

A cable could be added to the factory unit with an adapter to increase length. Theoretically, it can extend as long as you want since the cable did not carry that much current (up to a 100' should be okay), however, the only concern is when you extend that long, you have high chance to have more electrical interference which might affect the switch's functionality.

Question

Does the remote switch kill power TO the inverter, or only to the power receptacles?

In other words, if I use the remote switch to turn the inverter off, will the inverter still be drawing power from my 12 volt battery to power the display, spin the fan, etc. with only the power to the power receptacles cut off, or will this remote switch completely turn off power from the 12 volt battery to the inverter itself so it is not drawing any power at all from the 12 volt battery?

The remote switch kills the power to the inverter. Once the inverter is off the outlets turn off and no power is used by the inverter. When the inverter is on, it draws .6 amps an hour (LED display lights, internal computer, fan possibly) with nothing plugged into the outlets (the outlets are live at this time, just not being used). If the vehicle is not frequently used (2-3 times a week) then the inverter should be turned off to stop battery drain.
