My trencherman was on my snomobile trailer when I lost a wheel. I unloaded the machine, used it to push the trailer off the road...and continued over 100 miles towing @ 40-45mph. no problems.

Question

How difficult is it to move?

I need to do some digging around the edge of a pond. Once in place, I will only be digging for a short time before having to move six or eight feet along the edge. Can it be dragged by hand (two people) or do I have to hook it back up to a trailer hitch again?

This Northstar Trencherman Backhoe comes with instructions on how to move while in digging mode. This should only be attempted when the individual is comfortable with the controls, and is away from hazards. For instructions take a look at the manual located in the description tab, under contact links. Instructions are on page 10 of the manual.

The machine can be pushed and pulled by using the bucket....we call it crab-crawling! I also, not on the road, hook the bucket over the trailer hitch and lift the outriggers. That way you need not switch the wheels around. I also move my machine using the above technique, with my ATV...hard to steer though!

answer 2
Lifting weight is pretty much a matter of balance. If the machine is fully extended...2-300 lbs. before you tip foreward...closer to the operator it increases to maybe 4-500 lbs.

I have used my Trencherman for over 10 years. It is pretty tough to load material with it @ more than about 2 1/2 ' up....but if you can set yourself so that the machine is inclined uphill, it can be done!

I welded new teeth on mine...but reccomend reinforceing them with some strap 3/8 steel, running all the way along the back of the bucket and onto the teeth. You can also buy bolt-on teeth but unless they are reinforced they don't last long in "boney" digging.
