Questions & Answers for FREE SHIPPING - Generac Guardian Air-Cooled Standby Generator - 11kW (LP)/10kW (NG), 50 Amp Transfer Switch, Model# 6437

Question

Can you manually start and stop this generator?

I was thinking of using it as a source of power for my ranch work shop that is in a very remote area so there will not be any "grid power" interuption to trigger the auto start/stop.

The Guardian series automatic standby units are designed as a back-up to utility power only. Utilizing the unit in place of utility – prime power – will void the unit’s warranty. Installing this unit in a location without utility power will not allow it to perform functions such as charging the battery, and exercising.
The automatic standby generators can be manually started and stopped at the unit, but you must interact with the control panel on the generator itself as well as the transfer switch to do this. We cannot guarantee the unit will operate as desired if installed in an off grid application.

The battery charger is integrated into the control panel. The battery is charged off of the T1 line from the transfer switch. The T1 line will be powered whether utility power or generator power is present. The battery charger does not feed directly off of the alternator while the generator is running, and the battery charging system does not depend on the generator’s running to operate

answer 2
The 10kW automatic standby generator, as well as all of our other air cooled product, will run at 3600 RPM regardless of the load on the generator. The volume and pressure required for the 10kW unit operating at full load utilizing natural gas is 156,000 BTU/hr with 5-7” water column, and while utilizing liquid propane is 176,400 BTU/hr with 10-12” of water column. The fuel consumption will decrease as the load decreases; the unit operating at half load while utilizing natural gas will need 102,000 BTU/hr, and while utilizing liquid propane will need 115,920 BTU/hr.

The EZ Switch is 29.25 inches tall, 12.5 inches wide, and 7 inches deep. When installing an automatic standby generator with our EZ Switch transfer switch, the 30 foot pre-wired whip from the transfer switch to the junction box can be extended up to 15 feet further, while the 5 foot pre-wired whip from the generator to the junction box, and the 2 foot pre-wired whip from the EZ Switch to the home’s main panel cannot be altered. If the provided pre-wired whips are too short, you will need to discard the pre-wired whips and have your certified installer or electrician install new wiring and conduit suitable for the distance needed.

Question

In comparison to 20 lb propane tanks, what is the running time (at half load)

MOST generators list their running times on what ever fuel they are using. We the customers would appreciate and idea of how much NG and Propane we might expect to use in the event of an emergency. (which is the entire point of buying this generator)

The generator must be hooked up to at least a 100lb propane tank. Propane fuel consumption is 1.25 GPH (gallons per hour) at 1/2 load and 1.93 GPH at full load. Natural gas fuel consumption is 102 cubic feet per hour at 1/2 load and 156 cu/ft at full load.

Full fuel consumption tables are in the product manual and can be viewed on the main item (#167131) page of the website. Refer to page 8.

answer 2
It's possible for the generator to share a line from the propane tank BUT ONLY if it meets certain requirements. All appliances on that line must be able to obtain the required amount of fuel to operate correctly. Extremely large LP cylinders usually have a header installed on the load end of the line where all appliances share the line. Smaller cylinders are appliance specific and should not share a line. The best answer would come from your LP fuel supplier who knows the home in question.
