The generator will require a fuel pressure for liquid propane of 10 to 12 inches of water column (0.36 to 0.43 psi) at a volume of 236,880 BTU/hour. The primary regulator is not included, and should be specified by your fuel line installer using the fuel volume and pressure provided.

Always check local codes as some may vary, but Generac recommends the unit be at least 8 feet from the fuel source. Installing the unit close to the transfer switch and gas is always recommended.

answer 2
The 17kW automatic standby generator should be positioned no closer than 8 feet from your fuel source meter. The unit should be installed as close as possible to the fuel supply to reduce the length of piping, and should be installed as close as possible to the transfer switch. We recommend checking with your local inspector, as local codes may also regulate these distances and locations.

For 30 - 130 feet a 1 inch line is recommended. But most important that you stay within the 11-14" water column required for the propane line.

The correct size tank is determined by the size of the piping that is connected to the generator. May we suggest contacting your propane dealer for more information as to the correct size tank.

We do not have the ability to substitute the transfer switch for another. A 200 amp transfer switch can be purchased separately, however this generator is only capable of supplying a maximum of approximately 140 amps @ 120 volts or 70 amps @ 240 volts regardless of the transfer switch that is used. The 200 amp transfer switch that is available separately is item # 167108 or item # 165904. See link below for more details. It would be more cost effective to purchase item # 169115 (Generac 20 kw guardian series) as this generator comes set up in a package deal with the 200 amp transfer switch.

answer 2
No you can't. I would highly recomend getting the 20KW unit. Starting at 20KW models, it comes with a whole house transfer switch. This elimintates picking 16 circuits to run. It is well worth the extra money. According to Generac, you need at least 20KW to run an entire panel of most normal homes. You can calculate what you are running in your panel and may determine that 17KW would run it, but the cost of the 200 amp switches is very expensive if you have not looked. The best value is to get the 20KW model which would include the high price transfer switch. In reality, the price difference is the transfer switch. The gen set itself is almost the same.

For safety reasons this generator is not shipped with a battery. The battery is required to start the engine. Because this generator is fully automatic the battery is in place so that when the power goes out it can start it's own engine and run its own system check procedure. This generator keeps the battery charged as it runs, much like an automobile. For the battery that fits this generator click on the accessories tab when viewing the item or see the link below.

Battery not included. Probably to ease shipping restrictions.
This unit is a self starting unit and needs a small battery, the instructions will tell you just what to get.
The unit will trickle charge the battery when connected to mains power. It will not charge a dead battery.
If installed according to manual, everything worked first time, and every weekend under no load.

No it does not, but it needs a battery in order to start
and operate the generator. Yes the battery needs to be recharged. This, however is accomplished weekly when the generator starts and does a systems check.

No you must purchase your battery.

A battery is needed to start the engine, just as the battery for your car starts the auto engine.

The generator come with a battery charger.

The battery has a trickle charger to keep the battery ready whenever it is needed.

No, does not come with a battery. It uses a standard battery that can be purchased at any auto store. The battery is needed to start the engine the same way a car does. The unit has a charger built into it, and keeps the battery charged off of the power from your home. There is nothing you have to do once you install the battery. Not sure why it does not come with one, I would assume it is just something hard to keep with a unit that is mass produced and stored until sold. I bought the battery that Northern sells with the unit for about $80. Could have purchased cheaper at an automotive store, this was just easier. The battery needed for the unit is 5819 26R 12 Volt Wet Cell Battery.
