It is important to check your local codes and requirements. Generally speaking, black stovepipe is to be used ONLY in the room that contains the stove. Once the venting goes into a wall or through a ceiling, triple wall chimney pipe should be used. You would require the ceiling support box, which is the transmission piece to go from black stove pipe to Class A triple wall piping.

Question

can this be painted black?

I'm venting a wood burning stove into a basement block side wall tile flue to a brick chimney. I have 2x4 framing with durrock on the inside wall. one of the studs is about 2" from the inside of the 8.25" tile flue. Can I paint this black, slip this into the tile flue and adapt an elbow and single wall black pipe to the stove? If so, do I need a collar between the flue and pipe?

For future readers. This pipe is perfect for a DIY through the roof installation because it is triple wall the pipe is very forgiving on space to combustables. Get the Basic install kit from Duraplus here and you get everything you need for a straight through the roof installl.

Check your stove manual for correct length of pipe total to get the proper draft. Mine Required 15 feet minimum.

This particular product is not available in longer sections than 3 Feet. The lower quality double wall product does come longer. However when you click lock these pieces together it feels like a single solid unit. No indication of any play or weakness at the seams.

Yes. I have the Duraplus chimney support box and this snaps right together. The support box actually has a small length of this triple wall pipe on its backside that allows you to twist lock the chimney pipe right in.
