Staff Answer
This unit could certainly be pulled behind a John Deere riding lawn mower. The advantage that this unit has over one that does not have the aerator is that it will place the material that is being spread in the soil rather than just on top of it, to minimize loss through washing or blowing away. The spread rate is determined by the speed that this unit is being pulled. The spreading mechanism is driven by the spikes.

Blocks can be added to the aerator/spreader for extra weight. By placing wood over the seed storage area, blocks can be added for this purpose. No more than 2 small blocks should be used and they should be strapped down so as to not fall in the seed area.
