yes, you probably should load it with the tailgate up. just unroll enough of the mat that it drapes down into the angle between the bed and the tailgate.

Yes, I have the tailgate up when they pour whatever I'm getting in and then let the tailgate down when I get home so I can unload it. It's awesome!

The tailgate must be in the up position to load if you are going to transport. I was able to open the tailgate with no problem and did not leave a trail of gravel from the pit to my house. Worked GREAT!!

I have a plastic bed liner and I have unloaded a yard of gravel with no problem. The plastic allows the "blanket" to slid nicely.

answer 2
Most likely due to the rough surface of the bedliner. Bedliners tend to increase the traction of the bed. The Load Handler needs minimal friction to slide the load out. You could try something slick in between the two surfaces. Cardboard? a piece of plywood? Dowels would work too.
