Question

Pumping

Is fuel dispensed strictly by siphoning or is the hose handle a pumping device that uses hand squeezes to dispense the fuel when nozzle is higher than the fuel level in the tank?

There is 3 different ways this can be used. It is a gravity fed unit.

1. Gravity feed unit: (When the caddy is above tank being filled)
- If caddy is in a vertical position- insert nozzle into tank to be filled
- squeeze handle, fuel will flow, let go of handle fuel will stop.

2. For Siphon use:
- If caddy is in a horizontal position, follow instructions as above, EXCEPT squeeze handle repeatedly until fuel flows- hold handle to continue flow.

3. For Pump use: (When the caddy is below the tank to be filled.)
- Insert nozzle into tank to be filled. Squeeze handle repeatedly until desired fuel level has been reached.

answer 2
It is a gravity feed system. The unit needs to be higher than what you are transferring into. The nozzle handle does not 'pump' anything.

answer 3
It works 3 ways. gravity feed, if it's higher than the receiving tank; Siphon feed, by using the diaphram to start the flow; or diaphram feed, to pump it up to the tank opening. This gets pretty tiring on the hand after awhile though.

It is best as a siphon because it's quickest and easier on your forearm but yes, you can pup upward if you need to.

Yes, Northern Tool sells the hose and nozzle, but I would recommend replacing the hose with larger and more flexible fuel line.

Yes, I recall that Northern did have replacement spouts but you need to check with them. After running over the pump with my pick up, I was able to buy one from them. Try not to do this because the pump cost almost as much as the whole thing. Learned my lesson.

This fuel caddy will empty approximately 2 gallons per minute. This will not completely empty. It is like the fuel tank on your vehicle.

answer 2
It takes over 5 minutes in my experience. I only elevate the tank a few inches above the level of the tank but the flow limit seems related to the diameter of the fuel line than pressure generated by gravity.

I don't get it so high that the hose is almost straight but I do lift it 6 feet above the vehicle. Takes 5 to 10 minutes to empty.

I use my front-end loader to accomplish the same. I don't think it would be a good idea to use only the handle. I would reccomend some type of harness which would support the whole caddy.

Question

Can this be filled while in the bed of a truck?

Safety rules for filling portable gasoline containers require putting the container on the ground and maintaining contact between the metal pump nozzle and the container. This eliminates the build up of electric potential between the filling tank and the container.
Because this product is so heavy when filled, it would require two people to lift it, or the use of vehicle ramps.
Does the manufacturer address this situation?

Thanks
