You only need this plugged into your truck while using the jack to raise or lower your trailer not while towing. I purchased a mating jack and hard wired that with the circuit breaker to the battery on my camper. That way I can use the jack independent of the truck

Question

How many amps does the jack draw?

I'm concerned about the possibility of overheating the truck wiring. What do you have to do to get voltage to the jack? Turn on the lights for the truck?

It has a 25 amp circuit breaker. You would connect it to your 12 volt battery. You would disconnect it from the battery if it will not be in use for a few days to keep it from draining the battery.
