Per the manufacturer, a thermostat can be used, however, it would only be able to control a "high" and a "low" heat setting. Also, it must be a two wire Millivolt thermostat.

Question

Installation - Venting & Ducting Question:

Are these units able to be direct vented as would be a regular pellet stove?

Is ducting required?
For instance if the unit were placed in a basement as an add-on to boiler/hydronic heat with no duct work. Could it just blow the heat directly out into the basement similar to how a regular pellet stove would work..
