Questions & Answers for FREE SHIPPING - NorthStar Belt Drive Single-Stage Portable Air Compressor - 2 HP, 20-Gallon, Vertical, 5.5 CFM

Question

Is this compressor suitable for a staight line sander?

Would it work for intermittent use, or not at all? I have a project that would benefit from a line sander, but after it is done I likely won't be using the sander very often, so I can't see spending big bucks on a high capacity compressor.

This compressor is suitable to run any air tool that requires 5.5 or less CFM at 90 psi. The straight line sanders sold by Northern Tool does require a compressor that produces higher CFMs.

The pump has a capacity of 16.9 oz. You would use SAE 30 non-detergent pump oil prior to break in. After 50 hours of break in you may use synthetic type lubricants.

Question

Outlet size

I use a air gun that requires 3/8 fitting & line. Spec states 1/4 outlet. Is that just a matter of changing coupler to 3/8 or is there more to it.

It can be transported on its side prior to adding oil to the pump and installing vented oil cap. After the oil and vented cap are installed, it must be hauled vertically.

I transported mine from the store to my home on its side. They brought it out to my truck on a fork lift on its side. It is packed VERY well and it is dry, you must add your own oil.

This does not come with anything to set it up for 230 volt. The wiring and the plug would have to be purchased locally and wired by a qualified technician.

The NorthStar Air Compressor will require SAE 10-30W non-detergent oil, traditional or synthetic.

answer 2
I have always used 10W-30 oils so that the compressor will start easy in the cold weather. I have another 2 horse power compressor that is 32 years old and that is all I ever used. If you use a straight weight it will be like Molasses in the winter and strain the motor, it will blow your circuit breakers and very possibly damage the motor also. I use 10W-30 Valvoline always.

answer 3
SAE 30 non-detergent standard oil for break-in for the first 50 hours of use than Synthetic SAE 30 non-detergent oil would be best after that. Change oil every 100 hours of use or every 1 year which ever comes first.
