Mounts from the inside of the wall, avoiding the time and expense of dismantling and replacing siding. Totally enclosed 120V direct drive motor has 3 speeds and is permanently lubricated. U.S.A. Question

Is this unit designed to exhaust HEAT/SMOKE

Im planning on using this for my restaurant kitchen. Its about a 10x16 space. Sometimes the exhaust hood doesnt pull up all the smoke fast enough, and some smoke leaks out from under the hood and into the kitchen...will this fan placed on the wall blowing outside, will it be able to exhaust the excess smoke? Heat, it gets really hot in that kitchen. Is this fan designed to suck out the excess heat in the kitchen? Thank you

The fan does have 3 speeds. As long as the fan is turned on, it will help in exhausting the heat and smoke.

I don't see any reason why it could not be used for that purpose. I used to work restaurants, so I know what you mean. There is no guard on this fan.

Question

Is this fan water proof?

Can this fan be mounted outside the house? I have window cells around my basement windows and would like to mount the fan on top of these cells with the shutters pointing towards the sky. Can this be done? Will the unit rust? Will water leak through the shutters when not in use? Are the motor and electrical connections water proof?

The TPI Shutter-Mounted Direct Drive Exhaust Fan item # 255317 is recommended to be mounted from inside of the wall. The fan is not water proof and is not recommended to be ran outside.

The manufacturer(TPI Corp.) does not recommend installing the Shutter-Mounted Exhaust Fan anywhere but directly on a vertical wall. The shutters would not be able to open and close properly if installed at an angle.

The 19" overall dimensions does include the mounting flanges. The rough-in hole size will be 1/2" bigger than the blade size, or 16-1/2" for this exhaust fan.

Motor RPM for the 16 inch TPI Shutter-Mounted Direct Drive Exhaust Fan will be 1660 rpm when on high speed, 1550 on medium, and 1370 on low.

No, the TPI Shutter-Mounted Direct Drive Exhaust Fan would not be explosion-proof. Northern Tool does sell some explosion-proof exhaust fans from Canarm LTD. See Northern Tool item # 14771 or # 13767 for more information.

remote mount a speed controller

if the fan is going to be mounted high up in a shop, can the 3 speed controller be mounted at hand level? or do you sell a seperate controller? i plan on hardwiring an o/off switch at switch height and would like to have a dial or speed conttroller instead of getting a long chain. is this possible?

Question

Can it be used in a wall with studs at 16inch center

Does this fan seperate like the 12inch and if so any problem with using it in a wall with studs at 16inch center. I realize there will be a small amount of blinding on either side of the fan but i can live with this for the extra cfm over a 12inch.

The mounting dimension required for the 16" fan is 18.25" square. The fan does separate like the 12 inch fan.
