answer 3
You use an external regulator, and manually turn the gas flow on and off using the valve on the torch every time you start/stop the arc. cumbersome at first, but once you get used to it, it just becomes part of the process and you dont even think about it.

no external current control is available for this setup, you have to depend solely on travel speed to accomodate changes in the puddle and heat build-up in the parts. Very crude, but doable. takes a TON of practice and patience, but it can be done. sometimes I am able to take my rod hand and carfeully adjust the welders current knob without taking my eyes off the puddle.

answer 3
There is no foot control option for use with this welder or the larger hybrid machine. They are both scratch start machines. There is no way to add in a foot control either as the machine does not have the high frequency needed to start by itself.

I put an DC amp clamp on the lead when welding with 7018 3/32 rod. At max setting the rod strikes off at 75 amps but while you are welding it fluctuates up to maintain nice bead. I saw readings as hi as 88 amps. You won't be disappointed with this welder.
