I put an DC amp clamp on the lead when welding with 7018 3/32 rod. At max setting the rod strikes off at 75 amps but while you are welding it fluctuates up to maintain nice bead. I saw readings as hi as 88 amps. You won't be disappointed with this welder.

Staff Answer
The Northern Industrial Stick Welder is not advised to be used with an extension cord due to the drop in voltage which can affect the performance of the welder. If you need to use an extension cord, a #12 gauge cord is the smallest cord that must be used. Do not use an extension cord over 25' in length.
