Question

Can you use 2x6's and 2x8's instead of 2x4's?

2x6's or 2x8's would be easier to use and you would have a bigger flatter surface to sit your plate? 2x4's are never the same thickness so you have high and low spots making the plates rock back and forth.

It may be possible to use larger dimension lumber, however the spacing and length of the surfaces are designed fit best using 2x4s.

The picnic table and benches are designed to use 2x4's for best results. The preset screw locations are set for 2x4's. Larger sixes could be used but many of the pre-set screw locations will not align with larger boards.

Are the benches top-heavy

I'm interested in this kit, however the benches look as if they would be top-heavy, and easily tip over. Would like to hear from someone who has put it together, whether they think the benches are top-heavy or not.
