answer 2
Yes, it will pump unpressured water. I use it on a boat and the pickup is just one foot below the surface. Use a check valve so you do not loose the prime.

Question

Can I use this pump from 500 gal storage to drip irrigation system

The sprinkler valve when open is limited to 25 psi and would pump to a hose that then uses 1/4 inch hoses for drip irrigation.

Will this pump work for that application and since the psi is limited to 25 psi could I use a lower gpm flow.

Should work just fine. Make sure total volume is close to pump capability (gmp x nozzels are less than total out put)

Question

How far will this pump?

I want to drain from a tank into some light weight 1/4 inch flexable tubing and spray a solution onto shingled roofs. I would like to use about 100 feet of tubing to be able to reach all areas of a roof. Will this pump handle this application?

Staff Answer
In most cases, this pump will be able to move water through a 100 ft hose. Keep in mind that the GPM of the pump will be reduced the farther above the water source the end of the hose is. This pump will stall and no longer be able to move fluid once the end of the hose is more than 90 ft above the liquid level. Also, the pump will provide the best performance when it is placed as close to to the source as possible. (It is easier to push fluid than pull it). Horizontal run is not taken into consideration when figuring the distance that this item will pump, only total head (distance from the level of liquid being pumped straight up)

It will operate off a 12 volt battery, a deep cyle would be ideal. Depending on how much use it will receive, you can expect it to go 2-3 days before recharging easily.

That answer depends on the size of your battery. Deep cycle batteries are rated in Ah (Amp hours). For example if you have an 80 Ah battery that is in good condition it will pump for about 10 hours, @4.9 gallons per minute that would equal approximately 2,940 gallons. This unit draws 8 amps.

Ah / amp draw = approximate run time

gallons per minute x 60 = gallons per hour

gallons per hour x hours of run time = total output in gallons over the charge of the battery

The pump puts out 40 PSI for the pressure. It is an on demand pump. It works when a switch is turned on and off when you turn it off. It would work similar to your home. When you turn on a faucet the water runs, when you shut it off the water flow stops. You would need to set up your own connections.
