model#vr8000 winch Can I hook it up to the 12 volt wire on trailer wiring harness?

Will the standard trailer wiring harness handle the electrical load? Do you need to run a ground back to the truck? Or can you ground it to the trailer?

Check the PDF file under the content links for wiring information on page 5. The (72") red cable would attach to the motor from the battery with the motor ground attaching to the solenoid with the (72") black cable connecting to the battery as well.
