answer 2
considering that 1500 yards is nearly a mile, NO this will not illuminate trees at this distance. However this does give a bright white large beam of light that will illuminate something around 100 yards in clear dry weather.

Question

Flip out crank on the back

What is the flip out crank handle on the back? It looks like a dynamo or crank power alternative but there is no mention of it. Seems out of place if it just runs on Cs.
In other words. Can I turn the crank with no batteries and still get some light?

The artwork of the picture on the website is incorrect. This light does not have a crank handle on the back of it. It runs 8 hours on 4 C batteries.
