It is recommended that the batteries are replaced every 6 months. There are no "low battery" lights or warnings. The wiring for the anti-intrusion siren is 3 feet long.

I installed the sensors at our weekend getaway 2 months ago and haven't thought about batteries getting low. My plan was to change batteries at the same time as I change batteries on the smoke alarms, once a year.
I mounted the siren close to the control panel and actually cut and spliced to shorten the wire. You can also do the same to lengthen the wire.

what are upgrade options for this system?

Questions, could I connect more than one alarm to this system? How available are extra motion sensors and window/doorway sensors and could I add more to this system? Are phone connections required for this system?

Only one alarm will work with this system and a phone line isn't required to operate it. Multiple sensors can be added to this system provided that they match the specifications of the included sensors. The added sensors must communicate using analog wireless transmitters at a frequency of 433 Mhz. Currently, Swann doesn't sell extra sensors separately and they don't guarantee added sensors from a different manufacturer will operate correctly with the system.
