Yes they work together. Note that there are more channels on the Handhelds units, so be sure that they are all on the same channel. We get busy channels here and frequently use different channels, So a few times I thought I had a problem, Until i put the base unit on the same channel. LOL

These Midland Handheld GMRS radios should be adequate for cruise ship use. For best results, have the power level on high, and use one of the high power channels.

Question

How long is the VOX delay?

Older FRS radios, perhaps everything in the unlicensed bands, has a 0.5 second delay on the VOX. You start talking and nobody can hear the first word or two - very annoying. This was (supposedly) due to an FCC regulation. Is this still the case?

According to the manufacturer there should not be any delay. You should blow into the microphone to activate the VOX before talking if the first few words are not being picked up.
