does this item hook to the air hose

I want to hook it to my air compressor hose not my air compressor. Is this item designed for such a hook up?

This IIT Air Regulator With Gauge can be connected to your hose. It has a 1/4" female npt inlet and a 1/4" npt outlet. There is a less chance of damage to the gauge, by connecting the inlet to the compressor and your hose to the oulet.
