It is mostly metal with plastic protectors over the spinning blade. Some plastic on the knobs that tighten the guides. Motor housing and support frame are a good solid metal.

Question

Will this machine grind the blade guides?

Blade guides have to be re-sized as the blades or teeth wear down. Blade guides determine the depth of cut. Not re-sizing your guides will greatly diminish your cutting speed. Will this machine take care of this action?

yes, but I found it is easier to use the old file and guide to do this. With my chains the grinding wheel would need to be changed to a wider one to do this. You can leave he chain on the sharpener and use the file and guide though...

To answer your question the inside mark is for LEFTHAND cutters. The Outside mark is for RIGHTHAND cutters. If you set the saw on the ground in front of you and point the bar away from you, look down at the chain, if the top plate - working corner of the tooth is pointing left then it is a lefthand tooth. If it pointng to the right then it is a righthand tooh. See my review for more details.

The two small balls on the underside of the tilt plate are meant to stay where they are. There should always be one ball on each side of the bolt. This serves is a position indicator for the ZERO degree position.

To make the adjustment shown in figure 9 of the manual to change the angle desired, you will have to loosen the big black knob several turns and then shift it towards the front or back. You will be able to feel the notches while making the adjustment and then just tighten the knob.

It depends on the brand of chain saw you have, but most are close to the same, I have stihl saws and mine are 60 degrees for the wheels angle and 30 degrees for the chain angle, if need be ask who may have sharpened your chains before, or the dealer of your chain saws, you'll like the sharpener, I use it alot, good luck....

The inside mark is for Left hand cutters and the outside mark is for right hand cutters. Set the chainsaw in front of you and look down the bar. If the top plate working corner of a tooth is pointing to the left then it is a left hand cutter. if it points to the right then it is a right hand cutter.

answer 4
Just pick the wheel that gives you the finished profile you want. The size depends on if you've got round-chipper 3/8" , semi-chisel, or full-chisel. I've got several Husky 455s with 3/8" chain and have had no problems. The actual degrees setting have little to do with the saw make or having 3/8" chain . It depends on the make and type of chain and if it is chipper, semi-chisel, or full chisel. When in doubt -copy the angles it already has before you sharpen. Most round chipper chains are 35 degrees angle and the vise at 90 degrees. Most chisel chains are at 30 degrees angle and the vise is set 10 degrees off at 80 degrees. Keep the motor head set at 60 degrees. When you buy a new chain of almost any brand -it will come with sharpening specs.
