Questions & Answers for ProCom Dual Fuel Vent-Free Blue Flame Garage Heater - 30,000 BTU, Model# MD300TGA

Question

How close can I park beside unit?

Narrow garage area and was wondering: if you install at the 18 inches off the floor on the side of the garage - any concerns about how close the mirrors or doors of a car would be to the unit? Should I worry about how much heat is coming off the front of the unit causing paint to bubble?

3 feet would be enough. Majority of the heat rises up from the unit. Don't put anything above the heater.

If you can FULLY open your car doors inside the garage, you are plenty far from the heat source to avoid damage to the vehicle. Remember, this is an open flame source, no fuel vapors. Gas cans should not be stored in the same area as this heater is used.

The heat tends to rise from the unit. Its not a Radiant heater. so objects can be placed quite close.

A lot of heat comes off the top of this unit so I would make sure to have at least two feet between the heater and a parked car. I mounted mine higher (about three feet high).

You need to be sure that you have the heater mounted to the proper height off the floor of 3 feet. Then if you are operating the heater your vehicle should be a minimum of 2 feet away from the heater.

Considering that the hookups for LP or Natural are on the bottom of the unit, that would eliminate any ground mounting. The directions call for I believe 18 inches off the floor wall mounted.

I had some tile left over from a bathroom remodel and used that to place the heater onto. I used 4 12x12 tiles to make a nice little are for it.

The instructions suggest keeping it off the carpet because of the heat created.

On page 9 of the manual, it states that 2 inches of clearance is needed above carpet or other comustible material. The unit will not stand by itself. The gas connections are on the bottom.

Yes these units are electricity free, unless you add a blower. Set the desired temp you want and forget about it. I do not add a blower to my units since we live someplace that the power frequently goes out. These are the best way to keep your house warm other than a wood stove, but that is so much extra work.

Been using this model for almost 10 years and love it!

The only noise I hear is the flame coming on. No more that what a cook stove makes. When you light the pilot, which is electronic, you hear a clicking. But that is all.

My kids are small 8,6,4 and they do not got near them. The heat put off by these is hot enough they do not like getting close. I had these heaters before they were born and even when they were younger they stayed away, plus I installed the units about 4 ft off the ground, so wee ones would have trouble getting to them.

THE REAL ANSWER FOR NAT GAS IS IN 'THERMS' USED FOR YOU ARE BILLED BY THE UTILITY IN THERMS. LOOK AT YOUR BILL-EACH MONTH YOUR TERM USAGE WILL BE SHOWN. GOT OUT OT YOUR GAS METER AND IN THE BOX WILL SHOW THE PRESENT THERM READING. COME BACK 24 HRS LATER AND SEE THE CHANGE. I USE 2-3 THERMS PER DAY AT SETTING ON 2. THATS ALL! THE UTILTY CO I EXPECT WILL SOON HAVE THESE BANNED. YOUR GAS FURANCE IS USING ANYWHERE FROM 60,000 TO 120,000 BTUS. HERE YOU ARE USING ANYWHERE 10,000-30,000. IF YOU PUT TWO IN YOUR TWO LEVEL HOUSE YOU CAN HETA YOUR ENTIRE HOUSE. I USE ONE BUT I MOVE IT INTO THE OPEN STAIRCASE AT NIGHT.
