The stove comes complete. However, it is necessary to purchase a pellet stove flue kit or 3" double walled pellet stove flue piping to properly vent the stove outside, and if required, an outside air supply kit for your stove.

All of the traditional pellet stoves that Northern sells need to be vented. We do not offer a model currently that can be vented out of the house without a chimney.

You can go direct through a outside sidewall. You will need the specific flue duct designed for a pellet burner. Keep the run as short as possible. The stove comes with installation guidelines. If you aren't up to it or have insurance concerns, have it professionally installed. I installed my own and had it certified by my insurance company.

These stoves are recommended to be vented through the wall or roof. US Stove's installation instructions do not recommend the stove's flue terminate into an existing steel or masonry chimney.

In the event of a power outage, the stove will not function. If the stove was on at the time of the power outage the fan that helps vent the smoke out of your won't work. It's very important to vent this stove to the manufacturers specifications so the stove can vent the smoke by itself without the aid of the fan. If the stove was on and still warm when the power went out, and kept full it will continue to operate normally. If it was off and completely cool during the failure it won't work at all.

The stove will go out if power is out for a while. I learned that lesson the hard way.
I put mine on a 700 watt UPS to prevent that from happening. That keeps the stove running till the generator kicks on.

answer 2
The 5500m does not have an ash draw. Other stoves that do have them have to be shut down along with this one to clean it anyway. I use an Ash Vaccum to clean it and it works slick. I wish my other pellet stove cleans as fast as the 5500m.

answer 3
No. There is no ash pan for this stove model. The ash is contained inside the firebox. There are two small doors located on each side of the burn pot assembly. These two doors need to be removed and the compartments vacuumed out during routine stove cleaning along with the firebox.

This unit does not come with a thermostat so it runs until you turn it off or it runs out of fuel. It can be connected to a wall thermostat however, this will not turn the unit on and off but will only control the heat settings.

answer 2
This stove runs 100% of the time. The stove has 5 different heat range settings programmed into the digital controls. The stove will not automatically shut down or start up. The stove can be connected to a wall thermostat. Temperature control is maintained by the stove's room fan blower speed and heat range setting.
