The Mr Heater hose assembly could be connected directly to the Mr Heater Buddy series heaters without using a regulator because the Buddy series heaters have an internal regulator. One exception would be when using the quick connection portal on the heaters which bypasses the internal regulator on the heaters, but seeing as this hose assembly has direct screw connections that would not be applicable.

answer 2
you do not need a regulator and it attached directly to a 20 lb propane cylinder. However, you need to turn the tank valve on very slowly or the heater will not light.
