This will not charge a drained battery. It is intended to be a maintainer. That is; connected to, up to 4 charged batteries to maintain them.

answer 2
No,
System requires you to start with a fully charged battery. This will trickle charge and keep voltage current. I found it works best with a fully charged battery and it will keep it charged for a long time depending on the amount of sun it receives.

The BatteryMINDer manual suggests you first charge a drained battery using a regular AC charger, then attach the solar charging system to the battery. I connected the solar charger directly to a drained battery and let it charge for a couple of weeks. The battery now works like it should and I have not reconnected since it was first put on the charger. One cannot assure the same results for so many reasons but it is worth a try if you are not in a hurry.

This BatteryMINDer solar charging system is not meant to have another panel connected. Connecting another panel or larger than 15 watt panel will burn out the unit and void the warranty.

answer 2
Your Battery Minder solar charging system should work just fine to maintain your series wired 6 volt batteries. I have the same kind of setup on my toy hauler. Watch the water level in you batteries to make sure you are not cooking them, I had one of the control boxes go bad on this system and burn up two batteries while the trailer was stored. If everything is working properly, the batteries will be fine.

You would have to purchase extra wiring locally. But, you may have problems with that much distance between the panel and the box, it may not charge properly.

answer 2
The 20" of wiring is from the controller to the battery connections. There is an additional 15' of wire from the controller to the solar panel. You won't have a problem installing it 8' to 10' from the batteries.

This BatteryMINDer solar charging system must be orientated in a direction that will ensure maximum exposure to the sun. This must be mounted on a flat surface only, using the four mounting holes located on the panels frame.

answer 2
The solar panel can be permanently mounted using the four bracket attachments that come with the system. You will either have to purchase a mounting bracket or make something for the four brackets to mount onto. If you make something up keep in mind the panel requires 3/4" air circulation between the mounting surface and the back of the solar panel. The system also comes with two "arms" that allow you to prop the panel up on the ground or any other stable surface. If you use this method, locating the panel must be in a place where it will not fall over or be blown over.

Question

Is it possible for this system to overcharge a battery?

Also, if the lead from the panel to the charging system was to be disconnected, would the panel still be trying to output an electrical charge to any wires still plugged into it? An example of this would be if the wires between the panel and charger were to get cut in half and both units would still have the pair of wires attached to each side. Would the wires still attached to the panel be putting out an electrical current?

The system comes complete with a charge controller ensuring that the unit does not overcharge or discharge. Any wires from the panel are not producing electrical current until it is delivered to the battery. So, no electrical current will be generated with cutting of the wires.

The panel is water resistant and can withstand exposure to rain, splashes etc., however it should not be submerged. The controller is not water resistant and should be protected from the elements.
