Because there is no industry standard for testing sound levels on portable generators, Generac does not list a decibel rating. The GP6500 portable generator does not have GFCI protection on the control panel or receptacles. New appliances or sensitive electronics with electronic control boards, such new power tools, refrigerators, furnaces, and computers, can require total harmonic distortion to be below 5%; the total harmonic distortion for the GP Series portable units will be above 5%.

answer 2
Because there is no industry standard for testing sound levels on portable generators, we do not currently list a decibel rating for any of our portable generators.
The GP6500 portable generator does not have GFCI protection on the control panel or receptacles. We do not recommend adding GFCI protection to the control panel as any modifications to the unit will void the factory warranty. GFCI protection is not required for this unit when utilized for home backup or for recreational activities; however, if you are connecting this generator to a manual transfer switch, your local codes may require that the circuit breakers in your manual transfer switch be GFCI or Arc Fault breakers. We recommend to contact your local inspector to ensure compliance with all state and local codes.
New appliances or sensitive electronics with electronic control boards, such new power tools, refrigerators, furnaces, and computers, can require total harmonic distortion to be below 5%; the total harmonic distortion for the GP Series portable units will be above 5%. If you are unsure as to whether or not the items you intend to run are sensitive items, we recommend contacting the manufacturer to determine any specifications or restrictions for use with a portable generator. If you are looking for a unit with a cleaner power output, we would recommend considering either our XP Series gasoline powered units or our Guardian series automatic home standby generators.

The GP 5941 generator has THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) greater than 6% and is not recommended for sensitive electronics, such as a flat screen TV or computer. Please see my recommendations below for comparable Generac generator with less than 5% THD.

Staff Answer
No, This Generac generator does not have the auto idle feature, it runs at full speed.

The difference between model # 5941, and # 5700 is that model # 5700 is C.A.R.B. compliant for California residents and is recoil start. The model # 5941 features electric start.
