This standby generator must be installed outdoors. The generator includes its own enclosure(as pictured). A further "dog house" or similar structure is unnecessary and may obstruct adequate air flow around the generator.

This generator is equipped with an exercise timer. Once it is set,
the generator will start and exercise every seven days, on the day
of the week and at the time of day specified. During this exercise
period, the unit runs for approximately 12 minutes and then shuts
down. Transfer of loads to the generator output does not occur
during the exercise cycle unless utility power is lost.

The automatic standby generators are programmed to exercise weekly for 12 minutes. Exercise day and time can be changed via the Nexus controller under the Main Menu/Edit/Exercise Time section. A menu map is included in the owner’s manual to assist with editing this parameter.

If cold weather is a concern there is a cold weather kit available. See the linked item. Also it is suggested that you run 5W-30 synthetic oil in cold temperatures.

For our automatic standby generators, if you expect the temperature to drop below freezing, we recommend utilizing a 5W-30 Synthetic oil, which can be used year round. We also recommend using a cold weather kit, which includes a battery warmer and a crankcase heater. Using the correct oil and cold weather kit will allow the generator to start and run in below freezing temperatures.

The 8kW automatic standby generator, as well as all of our other air cooled product, has a floating neutral. When installed with a Generac automatic transfer switch as described in the installation guidelines provided with the unit, the neutral and the ground will be bonded at the first point of disconnect from the utility meter.

The Generac GUARDIAN Series Air-Cooled Automatic Standby Generator would be suitable for sensitive equipment. It produces clean, stable power for sensitive electronics. The THD (total harmonic distortion is +/- 5% which will provide pure sine wave power.

The automatic standby generators have a battery charger integrated into the control panel. When properly installed, the battery will be charged by the T1 line, which pulls from utility power when available, whether the unit is in the AUTO or the OFF position. When utility power is lost and the generator is providing power, the battery charger is powered off of the generator output. The integrated charger is designed to keep a battery at full charge; it will not recharge an already low or dead battery.
