The NorthStar generator is not designed to be operated in snow or rain due to electrocution. The generator would need to be sheltered such as in a garage with the door open in order to keep the unit out of direct contact with rainfall.

I keep my generator in a 3 sided building with a roof.
Where I live we get up to 2 feet of snow and about 50 inches of rain per year.

I would recommend covering the unit with a loose fitting cover (to prevent moisture and condensation from accumulating on the unit during temperature swings) and to stop critters from building nests in the unit. I keep mine in the garage with the accessory cover on it. When running, I leave it on my front porch where the exhaust doesn't enter the house, but rain and snow isn't directly coming down on it. I hate to say this, but it's such a good looking unit I wax mine with car wax.

This generator should be stored under an overhang to protect it from the elements if it's not stored in a garage/shed. A cover is recommended to minimize corrosion and protect it from outside dust/debris. Click the link below to view the appropriate cover for it.
