We do sell a handful of transfer switches that would work with the NorthStar 13,000. With the exception of the Generac transfer switch kit, you would need to also purchase a generator cord and power inlet box. See links below for our most popular.

This generator is not a 3-phase generator, it produces standard single phase power. This generator has a Honda engine that is EPA phase 3 and CARB compliant. EPA phase 3 compliance means it meets the latest EPA standards regarding exhaust and evaporative emissions. This unit includes a 120/240 volt 50 amp outlet and a 120/240 volt 30 amp locking outlet.

Any modifications to the NorthStar Generator will void the warranty. Being the generator is not designed to be operated this way, we are unable to say due to liability reasons.

Most likely, you will have no trouble running a 4 ton AC unit with this generator. Because power consumption will vary between manufacturers, check to make sure your unit uses less than 10,500 running and 13,000 surge watts.

answer 2
Yes. P=(I)*(V) = 30A * 240V = 6000Watts = 6kW.
This generator produces 10.5kW. If all you want to run is your AC and some lights, this puppy will do it. This runs my entire house, not minimally, completely.

This generator has a 50 amp receptacle, an L14-50 configuration. Click the link below to view the appropriate cord for connection to a transfer switch or inlet box. Northern Tool only carries this power cord in the 10' length.

Watts = amps x volts. This generator is capable of running continuously at 10,500 watts. If that were at 120 volts, you would have 87.5 amps, and if using 240 volts you get 43.75 amps. You can also use a combination of the two at the same time.
