What is the holding power in pounds of this magnet? The ones I have used in the past were very weak and could not hold anything.

If you're referring to the whimpy red magnets, these are a lot better. They are boxed in at the sides, which gives the magnet more of a lip to work with. I'd say this is probably 2X to 3X stronger than the old school style magnets.
