Not a good idea for a 115v, really should use 230v 30a for .35 wire as it will handle thicker material. Spend the money for a 230v if you are doing jobs bigger than 3/8" and you can still use it for .23 - .30 wire.

Yes, the dual groove drive roll will work. Use the smaller groove for .023 and the larger groove for .030 and .035. Of course, contact tips need to match the wire size but yes all three will feed with the drive roll and the liner in the gun.

You'll have to buy aluminum wire, and usually a different gas mixture than the 80/20. Aluminum welding is not easy so be sure to have something to practice on first.

answer 2
Staff Answer
Yes, the MIG 135 can weld aluminum but do to the relatively low output that you get from a 115V powered machine, the aluminum welding should be limited to minor repairs and non-life supporting welds. It is best to step up to a machine that uses 230V input power.

A spool gun for this machine is being developed but is likely to be at least 6 months out.

Hints:
- Use a larger contact tip
- Reduce drive roll pressure
- Keep the gun straight
- Use a different allot such as 5356

answer 6
Aluminum welding is no easier than the expertise of the welder. The mig will weld aluminum to the perimeters of its specifacations, yet the quality of the weld is directly related to the knowledge of the user. If you were welding extensivly with aluminum I would purchase a gun for this dedicated purpose.

This welder supplies slightly lower amperage than the Hobart handler 140, and as a result the maximum metal thickness that it can weld in a single pass is slightly less (Northern Industrial 3/16" vs Hobart 1/4") . Otherwise, the welder supplies similar features to the Hobart welder. The Hobart welder features a 5 year limited warranty and the Norther Industrial welder features a 3 year limited warranty.
