'Explosionproof', as defined by the NEC: "enclosure containing arcing or sparking contacts that are hermetically sealed against gas or vapor entry". Based on what I can see, by unscrewing the lamp assembly, there is nothing sealing the internal parts from the open air; therefore, I would assume that this is NOT a class 1, division 2-certified piece of equipment. An internal spark could easily ignite a combustible/flammable atmosphere. Also, I saw nothing on the packaging that would refute this opinion.

No, this can not be operated directly from a 12 volt source. The adapter is only used for charging.

There is a 12v plug-in but I believe it is for recharging only. Recommend following the instructions on charging: only charge for under 24 hours (prevents overcharging which damages batteries), leave unplugged when not charging, only charge every 2-3 months if not used up before then. Batteries will last at least 3 years from experience I had with a 10 million candlepower spot from SunForce.
