The compressor does not come with a plug. These need to be hardwired and requires a 30 amp breaker and #12 wire and you should have a strong 230 volt service.

1) use the start up kit and you can extend the warranty on the pump to 2 years 2)Unit has one connect but it is easy to put on a tee or a cross to give multiple connects 3) unit does require oil. If you want to use different pressures you will need to get a pressure regulator for one outlet.

I spoke with the manufacturer (Ingersoll Rand) and the CFM at 90 PSI is 11.3.

At 40 PSI they do not provide a CFM but I was told that you will get only a few tenths of CFM more than at 90 PSI.

11.3 cfm @ 90psi, according to IR product literature which you can link to from Northern's sales page:

http://www.northerntool.com/downloads/manuals/1592027.pdf

Can't help with the cfm at 40psi, however.

With no air use and empty tank it will pump completely up in about 3 minutes. During normal use it would shut off at 135# and start when air pressure got to 90# or there abouts. Depends on what you are using for tools. With 1/2 " air wrench I can use almost continually and maintain right at 100 # pressure. For instance rotation of tires on pickup. Jack up one side of pickup, pull off both tires, roll tires front to back, then remount both tires. 16 nuts off then back on it usually shuts off before I get first tire started to tichten.

Question

How to hook up air tools

I'm a compressor rookie. Just got my Ingersoll Rand SS3. Looks like there is a 3/4" connector after the service valve. What parts do I need to hook up an air hose, and can I hook up two hoses? Also, how do I adjust the psi?

Your hose should connect right up to the compressor and the other end to your tool. You can run more than one tool at a time as long as the 2 together do not exceed the maximum PSI rating for the compressor. Item #1115093 will allow you to hook up 3 hoses. You may need some adapters to go from 3/4" to 1/2" for some hoses. There should be a valve next to the PSI gauge to adjust it. Your manual should give you this information.

Buy a pressure regulator to adjust line pressure so you can leave tank pressure alone. After the service valve put on a tee with two quick couplers of your choice to attach your hose to. If you use quick couplers on tank, hose, any air tools or sprayers and on your pressure regulator you can quick change like a pro.

Question

How will a DA sander do on this compressor?

I restore cars in my spare time. Occasionally, I need to run a DA sander. I'm considering either the SS3L3 or the SS5L5. How much DA time with this compressor give me before I need to let the tank refill? I'm trying to decide if it is worth 1.5x the price for the larger compressor.

I can't say for sure how much run time (sanding) you will get between refills on the tank, but I can say if you purchase this unit, you won't be sorry. I'm very pleased with mine. And right now...it's main job will be supplying compressed air for a 79 chevrolet truck frame-off restoration I'm in the middle of! Good luck.
