Yes it can be replaced. When buying hose on a reel, decide the hose size you can live with because brass fittings that allow it to be used on a reel are sized for the hose and trying to reduce size may required more tinkering than a novice likes. Keep in mind too, the size fittings ordered on the hose mean you also must sometimes find brass reducing fittings to get to the most common quick-connect ends.

I welded two flat plates to make a steel angle bracket and bolted the bracket to the wall, Then I just hung the reel from that bracket. Regardless which way you mount, ceiling or wall, you need to have between two studs. 5/8 plywood will work lapping studs behind sheetrock. Slightly countersink carriage bolts so plywood sets flat to wall or ceiling. Check bolt pattern fits reel, then screw wood to studs, mount reel and bolt tight. I left a video on my original review.

The 8inches measures from the brass fitting (comes with unit) and the outside bolt that holes reel onto bracket. Consider the 21 to have a little cushion so not exact.
