A CAT pump use to be the best. Now the General Pump 3500 psi is a good pump too. Especially as a replacement and it gives you a little more pressure for cleaning concrete.

This washer (#1578112) uses a Comet axial type pump. Both are fantastic units that you would be happy with. Comparing the two: the Cat pump is the top of the line commercial/industrial pump. They can also be rebuilt.

It depends on what pump and brand of pump you want to use. A lot of people are replacing them with GP for general pump brand because its cheaper

Question

Will this unit knock off loose paint on a brick wall?

I have a need to clean m house walls (brick) and want to repaint them...Does not have to "strip"the whole wall, but knock off the semi - loose paint.
(I am looking at either of the 3000 psi North STar cold water washers...)

Yes, this washer will do a good job of taking the loose paint off of a brick wall. A great option to increase the cleaning power of this machine is a turbo nozzle. See link below for more details.

Pressure Washer Adjustable Pressure Valve

I have a NorthStar 2.5GPM@3000PSI GX160 PT # 1578112 Pressure Washer. I have searched my manuals and on line as to instructions or operating procedures for operation of the adjustable pressure valve with no success. The easiest way to adjust the usable pressure is with the use of different nozzles. The reason that the instructions do not list the proceedure for adjustment is that it is not recommended that the unloader valve on the pump of this washer be used to adjust pressure because it is possible to adjust the pressure beyond the safe operating capacity of the unit. If there is no other option to obtain the adjustment that you need for a given project, a pressure gauge should be used inline to ensure that you do not exceed the rated capacity of the unit. Not sure where it's at in the manual.... you just turn the tall black cylinder that sits atop the pump (just above the host connections). If you lok closely, you can see an arrow indicating the direction to turn to increase/decrease pressure

The mix ration for the downstream injector on this unit will change depending on a number of variables including the viscosity of the material that is being drawn through the injector and the length of hose that is used. In most cases this injector will create a final mix of 16-18% chemical.

I don't know if this will help -

I mix chemicals in accordance with label instructions for the chemical I'm using (so many ounces per 5 gallon bucket) and it has worked for me.

Since this unit only draws chemical while on low pressure, the amount of extra water added to the mix is fairly low.

The pump that is on the Model 1578112 pressure washer will provide 3000 PSI of power. This pump does have the ceramic plungers.

Ideal conditions for the NorthStar pressure washers would have 1 GPM more than the pump requires. We would recommend 3.5GPM or larger feed for this. See links below for a few suggestions.
