The work table on this Northern Industrial mini drill press locks into place by tightening the support lock with the attached handle.

It has the crank that raises and lowers the table, and it has a handle that allows you to tighten the table on the back of the collar on the table.

Not sure how to determine what is the highest to the lowest on the drill. Is the top the fastest and bottom the lowest??

Starting on the bottom groove of the pulleys and working your way to the top the speed setting are as follows: 620, 1100, 1720, 2340 and 3100 RPM.

The top pulleys are the fastest and the bottom ones are the slowest. There is a RPM chart located on the inside of the cabinet lid with a pulley diagram.

Is there an optional tube available that will extend the overall height of this unit to facilitate drilling into longer items?

There is no optional tube available for the Northern Industrial Mini Drill Press that would raise the height of the press. The table can be moved up or down to accommodate different size items.
