There are 2 filters in the package. When the color changed on the desiccant, the unit will need to be replaced.

The life of the dryer is based on the amount of moisture that's in your compressor and also the ambient moisture levels in the work space. In order to increase the life of the dryer use with a compressor that's properly maintained and work in low humidity.
