Yes, you may use the Cobalt Drill Bits on wood as well as steel and metal.

They can be used for wood and metal. If you are drilling wood and it is more than an inch thick you might have to pull the drill bit out to allow the shavings to clear off of the bit. Wood bits generally have deeper flutes to allow the shavings to come out of the hole easier while you are drilling. Also the shape of the point on a wood bit is angled slightly different to allow a faster cut into soft material. I use them for everything from wood to steel and aluminum and have no problems other than cleaning out the shavings when drilling wood. A small detail when it comes to having one set of drill bits that can do it all.

All of the bits have a regular shank, not tapered. This set is made in the USA.

The larger bits are NOT tapered shank. Each bit of the set that I received from Northern Tool was stamped "USA."

whats the difference

I noticed that these say (cobalt) drill bits and the Northern brands say cobalt coated. I am wondering are these ones completely cobalt or are these just cobalt coated too? Thank you

These are Cobalt Steel Alloy, not cobalt coated. They contain 8% cobalt.
