Are the light bulbs special, or do regular home bulbs work?

Yes and no. If looks like you could use a filament style bulb on a DC source but you wouldn't want to. It wouldn't produce enough light at this voltage. The provided LED bulbs use less power to produce the light. Stick with the LED's. You can google "DC light bulbs" for more information.

The lights supplied use LEDs and need a 12 volt power source, which is why there is a cigarette lighter adapter on the lights and the battery. A 120 volt household bulb, whether incandescent, LED, or CFL, would not work. A different 12 volt light could work, however, as long as the power draw was not large.

According to the unit, it's a 7 amp hour battery. You can figure out the conversions by looking at:

This system comes with a battery that will supply 7 amp hours.
Amp hours / amp draw = approximate hours of battery life
7 / 3 = 2.33 hours of battery life at 3 amp draw.

The supplied solar panel is an Amorphous panel.

Although the best results will be the best in direct sunlight this panel will still charge in cloudy or low light conditions.

This system is a great low cost choice to supply portable solar power.

answer 3
This product has an amorphous silicon panel, which has good power production properties under low light conditions compared to mono or polycrystalline cells. However, it is still a fraction of the power produced under full direct sun conditions.

Question

How big is the panel itself

In description it states 3x5x18 as size. But the picture shows that the panel itself is not 5x18, because small side looks to be not ca. 1/3 of long side (5/18 would be ca. 1/3).

So, could you provide the exact size of the panel.

answer 1
Not too much. A fully charged solar battery would supply about 40 watt-hours (12 volts x 3.3 amp-hours) before being 50% depleted (the recommended low discharge point before needing to be recharged). Some smaller laptop chargers might draw this, and one hour of charging could bring it up to 80% or more. However, larger laptop chargers draw twice that amount, so they would get only half an hour or less charging time before depleting the battery which would restore some power but not enough to fully recharge the laptop.

There's a decent amount of LED's per bulb. I can't tell you the lumens but I can say that two light bulbs hanging over our picnic table was more then enough light to play games and such in the evening.

This Camping kit should work fine for a small building with minimal lighting needs. However, this kit does not come with mounting hardware for the solar panel so you will need to construct your own mounting.

I use it daily for a horse shed that houses 3 horses. I mounted the collector permanently on the shed roof and put the battery box and lights inside out of the weather. It worked well all through this past winter even with shed temperatures getting down to 10 degrees F.

This item includes all of the necessary components of the system. The 5 watt solar panel that is included with this system is separate from the battery box so that it can be mounted in a position that will provide it with direct sunlight.

It has a built in charge controller that turns the collector on and off as the battery reaches full charge. You can watch the charge light turn on and off as the better indicator light reaches 14.5 volts.
