Questions & Answers for Northern Industrial Timberjack with Fiberglass Handle - 4Ft.L

Question

Is the handle really fiberglass?

From the two pictures, it sure looks like the entire main shaft of the tool, from the head back to the end of handle, is one material, without transition. Is the main shaft all fiberglass, end to end? All the timber-jacks I've seen had metal heads, so I figured this one had to be metal, too.

The main shaft is thick (2"+) fiberglass from end to end. The head is a metal sleeve made of thick steel, that fits over the handle.

The main shaft is all fiberglass from end to end. Only the hook and base are metal. From my experience it has plenty of strength.

The handle is fiberglass, but the head is steel. It transitions right behind the hook pivot point. Both the handle and the steel head are the same color so it's hard to see.

answer 9
Yes, it really is fiberglass. it's a large diameter hollow glass "tube", probably 30% lighter than other wooden handled jacks I've used (and broken!) and it is inserted into the steel ferrule that makes up the head. There appears to be a flathead phillips screw holding the handle in the head, but it's never come loose, so I'd guess it's stuck in there with adhesive or resin of some type in addition to that screw. I've used mine hard for three years now and it's as tight as it was when I bought it. You won't be disappointed if you purchase this jack.

Your observation is correct, being that there are no transitions from one material to another. The head is heavy duty steel. Great asset and tool to have in your arsennal.

Yes, it is solid. I have turned and lifted some logs up to 18" and it has handled the job just fine.
