Questions & Answers for "Granberg EZ Rail Mill Guide System - 9-Ft., 3 Crossbar Kits, Model# G1080"

Question

What is the shortest log I can use with a 9-ft rail?

for example (and i don't really know how this attaches to the log), can I cut a 5 foot log with a 9 ft. rail (understanding that some of the rail will extend beyond the log)?

Can I cut a 4 foot log?

Or do the ends of the rails need to be attached to the log?

thanks.

The 9 ft. rail mill guide system can be used with logs of any length, even a 2 or 3 foot log. Otherwise, we do offer the 5 ft. rail system shown below if this is the only size logs you will be cutting.

Yes. After you use the top rail to make a level surface, each successive pass creates a board of your desired thickness.

answer 2
Not at all. If you set up the EZ Rail correctly on the first pass, you are left with a perfectly level surface for the next pass. You simply reset the depth of cut to the board thickness you desire and run the mill right down the log on the level surface. I suggest picking up several packs of cedar shims and using one on each side of the slab every 12-16" to avoid pinching the chain.

You can use more than one of the 9' guides put together or add a 5' guide, item #11880. There is a connector kit , item #11882 that would allow you to connect any combination of the guides to get the length you desire.

The crossbar kit is the piece that is used to secure the main rails. The crossbar kit can be seen in the picture at the close end of the log it is the part that connects the two main rails together and sits perpendicular to the log. The connector kits ( available separately) Will connect more than one section of rail together to cut longer logs. The pieces that are supplied in the kit will allow you to cut logs up to 9 ft. long.
