answer 1
No, this Powerhorse log splitter does not accept a four way wedge application.
This is a dual split log splitter, meaning it will split logs in both directions, preventing a four way wedge to operate properly.
The I-beam assembly is open at the top to allow the wedge to go back and forth, I imagine that the log would bind and wood chips entering the cylinder area over time would ruin the splitter.

answer 2
I would say probably not a good idea. The wedge travels back and forth over the beam. Horizontal wedge blades would tend to bind the wood down to the beam and side tables. Would probably also overstress the weld joint at the base of the vertical wedge. This unit has a thin slicing wedge that's welded to a telescoping steel tube. As designed it splits without developing extreme pressure on the wedge weld. A 4-way wedge would likely tear itself out of the tubing in short order.

answer 3
The splitter is proprietary to Northern Tool. Since Northern Tool does not market a 4-way wedge for this splitter, I'm assuming it's not designed to take a 4-way wedge.
