You should not pump calcium chloride w/ H2O. The flow would not be adequate to keep the pump cool.

Can this pump run deadheaded for long without damage?

If I have a 2 inch fire hose and close the valve does the pump need to be shut down immediately? Is there a minimum bypass needed?

The pump would need to be shut off immediately as soon as the water source is shut off. There would be no bypass.
